Event Details

Join in the fun as Woodhouse turns spooky with a range of activities from Fun fair games, Pumpkin Carving, arts & crafts plus a range of onsite activities offered by the Woodhouse Park activity teams.

After the day activities have finished there will be a break to grab some food and once darkness descends participants will be able to walk the woodland trails full of scary scenes, spooky characters throughout a variety of themes of a scary nature.

A full list of activities on offer can be found on the map, with evening activities on the programme.

With over 50 activities on offer, there is a wide selection of activities for all age ranges. We recommend splitting into smaller groups to avoid large queues – we do not require each group to have a leader, subject to your risk assessment. Activities on offer are subject to change – any changes will be updated on the map and programme.

Activities run on the Saturday, with camping available on either the Friday or Saturday night.

Volunteers from each group will need to help supervise some self-led activities – please take this into account when considering ratios and your risk assessment.

A copy of our instructed activity risk assessments, and self-led activity guidance are available here. Please note we do not provide risk assessments for self-led activities.

Check-in opens at 6pm for groups arriving overnight, and 9:00am for groups arriving on the day. A representative of each group/unit should check in at the shop, to collect their wristbands.

Event tickets are non-refundable, meaning the number of tickets cannot be reduced once booked. We recommend booking the minimum number of tickets you expect to need and getting in touch to increase the number of attendees if needed.

Young Leaders can attend the event but must have a participant ticket.

Leader’s children are welcome to come to the event but must have a participant ticket unless they are under four years old.

We can provide an invoice for groups/units unable to pay online – please get in touch and let us know.

There is a shop on site by the main entrance. We recommend young people bring £10 to spend in the shop. The shop has a varied selection of toys & games, badges, woggles, woodhouse park memorabilia, drinks, pastries, ice creams, snacks and sweets. We accept cash & card.

We cannot provide access to a fridge/freezer, unless you have booked accommodation. Power is available at various points across the centre for leaders to charge mobile phones.

See the event map for the location of all our carparks. Please use the main reception carpark if you may need to leave the site during the event, and for drop-off/collection.

Please note there is another event on the Saturday, so groups camping overnight will not be able to drive onsite until 5pm.

We are a zero-waste site. Please take as much waste as possible home. There is a small provision for recyclable waste in the main site carpark, which groups can use if needed.

Canisters and batteries must not be disposed of onsite and must be taken to a suitable waste recycling centre.

Groups and units can arrange to set up campsites in advance of the event by getting in touch with our bookings team.

You are welcome to have an open fire, but this must be contained off the ground (e.g. in an altar fire) or in a designated campfire circle/firepit.

Woodhouse Park is a scout centre owned and managed by Avon Scouts, we follow the Scout’s safeguarding guidance and yellow card. Every leader attending the event is given a copy of the yellow card.

Leaders attending the event must follow the rules of their organisation, which usually includes the requirement for a DBS check and/or training.

All attendees must wear a wristband throughout the event, and they may be asked to show this at any time.

A WhatsApp community will be running during the event, which we encourage a leader from each group to join.

This will be used for any announcements from our team, such as changes to the programme or activities.

Spooktacular Programme

The main woodhouse Spooktacular event will run from 1pm until 8pm and throughout the afternoon there will be plenty of fun activities that groups can take part in.

At the end of the activity sessions around 5.30pm there will be a 1-hour break for an evening meal for which groups will need to self-cater or bring along food for.

Once this break is over there will be a campfire in the reception area with music playing whilst groups will be waiting to be sent through the woodhouse scare trail.  The trail will wind it’s way through parts of the Woodhouse grounds, haunted woods and will have a variety of jump scares and scenes.  The trail will end back at the reception area where groups only visiting for the day can then be collected.   For any groups who are camping or wish to stay later there will be a Disco from 8pm and a late-night movie from 9pm to 10.30pm.

We would also encourage participants to dress up in themed costumes (Adults Too!) as well as making their own Halloween themed lanterns that they can use whilst going around the scare trail.

The woodhouse tuck shop will be open throughout the event to stock up on your souvenirs, badges, and sweets!
